Pumpkin Date Flan: A Deliciously Creamy Autumn Dessert
Pumpkin Date Flan is an exquisite dessert that combines the earthy sweetness of pumpkin with the rich, caramel-like flavor of dates. This smooth and creamy flan is perfectly spiced and boasts an indulgent caramel topping that makes it an ideal treat for any autumn gathering.
Ingredients###
For the Caramel:
1 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup water
For the Flan:
1 can (15 ounces) pumpkin puree
1 can (12 ounces) evaporated milk
1 can (14 ounces) sweetened condensed milk
3 large eggs
1/2 cup chopped dates
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions###
Step 1: Prepare the Caramel
1. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine the sugar and water.
2. Stir the mixture until the sugar dissolves, then let it cook without stirring until it turns a deep amber color.
3. Quickly pour the caramel into a 9-inch round baking dish, swirling to coat the bottom evenly. Set aside to cool and harden.
Step 2: Prepare the Flan Mixture
1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
2. In a blender, combine the pumpkin puree, evaporated milk, sweetened condensed milk, eggs, chopped dates, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, cloves, and vanilla extract. Blend until smooth.
3. Pour the flan mixture over the hardened caramel in the baking dish.
Step 3: Bake the Flan
1. Place the baking dish in a larger baking pan. Pour hot water into the larger pan to reach halfway up the sides of the baking dish, creating a water bath.
2. Carefully transfer the setup to the preheated oven. Bake for about 60 minutes, or until the flan is set but still slightly jiggly in the center.
3. Remove the flan from the water bath and let it cool to room temperature. Then refrigerate it for at least 4 hours or overnight.
Step 4: Serve the Flan
1. To serve, run a knife around the edges of the flan to loosen it. Place a serving plate over the baking dish and invert it quickly and carefully.
2. The flan should release, and the caramel will form a delicious sauce over the top.
3. Slice and serve chilled, garnished with additional chopped dates if desired.
Enjoy your creamy, sweet Pumpkin Date Flan at your autumn celebrations!
