Ingredients:
For the Brisket:
– 1 (4-5 pound) beef brisket
– 1 tablespoon kosher salt
– 1 tablespoon black pepper
– 2 teaspoons smoked paprika
– 1 teaspoon garlic powder
– 1 teaspoon onion powder
– 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
– 1/2 teaspoon mustard powder
For the Bourbon BBQ Sauce:
– 1 cup bourbon
– 2 cups ketchup
– 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
– 1/2 cup brown sugar
– 1/4 cup molasses
– 1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
– 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
– 1 tablespoon smoked paprika
– 2 teaspoons garlic powder
– 2 teaspoons onion powder
– 1 teaspoon black pepper
– 1/2 teaspoon salt
– 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
– 1/4 cup apple juice
Instructions:
1. Prepare the Brisket:
1. Preheat your smoker or oven to 250°F (120°C).
2. In a small bowl, combine the salt, black pepper, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, and mustard powder. Mix well.
3. Rub the spice mixture evenly over the entire surface of the brisket, making sure to cover all sides.
2. Smoke the Brisket:
1. If using a smoker, place the brisket in the smoker and cook for about 6-8 hours, or until the internal temperature reaches around 195°F (90°C).
2. If using an oven, wrap the brisket in aluminum foil and place it on a baking sheet. Cook for approximately 6-8 hours, or until the internal temperature reaches around 195°F (90°C).
3. Prepare the Bourbon BBQ Sauce:
1. While the brisket is cooking, make the Bourbon BBQ Sauce. In a saucepan over medium heat, combine the bourbon, ketchup, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, molasses, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, salt, cayenne pepper, and apple juice.
2. Stir well and bring to a simmer. Let the sauce cook for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it thickens slightly.
3. Remove from heat and let the sauce cool.
4. Rest and Sauce the Brisket:
1. Once the brisket has reached the desired temperature, remove it from the smoker or oven and let it rest for at least 30 minutes. This allows the juices to redistribute throughout the meat.
2. After resting, slice the brisket against the grain into thin slices.
3. Serve the brisket with the Bourbon BBQ Sauce drizzled over the top or on the side for dipping.
5. Serve:
1. Serve the Bourbon BBQ Beef Brisket with your favorite sides, such as coleslaw, cornbread, or mac and cheese.
2. Enjoy the tender, smoky, and sweet flavors of this delicious dish!
