Instructions ###
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Blanch the green beans: Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the green beans and cook for about 5 minutes until tender-crisp. Drain and immediately transfer them to a bowl of ice water to stop the cooking process. Drain again and set aside.
- Prepare the casserole mixture: In a large mixing bowl, combine the cream of mushroom soup, milk, soy sauce, and black pepper. Mix until smooth.

- Assemble the casserole: Transfer the mixture to a 1.5-quart casserole dish, spreading it out evenly.
- Add the topping: If using, sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese over the top of the casserole. Then, sprinkle the remaining 1/2 cup of crispy fried onions evenly over the cheese or directly over the casserole.
- Bake the casserole: Place the casserole dish in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the casserole is bubbly and the onions on top are golden brown.
- Serve warm: Remove from the oven and let it cool slightly before serving. Enjoy this delicious and comforting dish!
