Jalfrezi Joy: A Spicy Chicken Delight
Jalfrezi is a popular dish of Indian origin that combines marinated pieces of meat, usually chicken, with a spicy tomato-based sauce and a medley of vibrant vegetables. Ingredients:
– 500g chicken breast, cut into bite-sized pieces
– 1 large onion, chopped
– 1 large bell pepper, chopped

– 2 tbsp vegetable oil
– 1 tsp cumin seeds
– 1 tsp coriander powder
– 1 tsp turmeric powder
– 1 tsp garam masala
– 1 tsp chili powder
– 2 cloves of garlic, minced
– 1-inch piece of ginger, minced
– Salt to taste
– Fresh cilantro leaves, chopped for garnish
– Juice of half a lemon
Instructions:
1. Marinate the Chicken:
– In a bowl, mix the chicken pieces with half of the turmeric powder and a pinch of salt. Set aside to marinate for at least 20 minutes.
2. Prepare the Sauce:
– Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
– Add the cumin seeds and let them sizzle for a few seconds until aromatic.
– Add the chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
– Stir in the minced garlic and ginger, and cook for another minute.

– Add the coriander powder, remaining turmeric powder, chili powder, and chopped green chilies. Stir well to combine.

6. Finish with Garam Masala and Lemon Juice:
– Sprinkle the garam masala over the dish and stir well.
– Squeeze the juice of half a lemon over the top and mix to incorporate.
7. Serve:
– Garnish with freshly chopped cilantro leaves.
