Exotic Mexican Flan with Caramel Drizzle and Fresh Mint

This exquisite dessert brings together the creamy richness of a traditional Mexican flan with the refreshing aroma of fresh mint, creating an indulgent treat that will delight your taste buds. The addition of caramel drizzle enhances the sweetness, while the mint provides a crisp balance, making it a perfect ending to any meal.

Ingredients:
For the Caramel:
– 1 cup granulated sugar
– 1/4 cup water

For the Flan:
– 1 can (14 ounces) sweetened condensed milk
– 1 can (12 ounces) evaporated milk
– 1 cup whole milk
– 5 large eggs
– 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
– 1/4 teaspoon salt

For the Garnish:
– Fresh mint leaves
– Additional caramel drizzle (optional)

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Caramel:
1. In a medium saucepan, combine the granulated sugar and water.
2. Cook over medium heat, without stirring, until the sugar dissolves and turns a deep amber color, about 10-15 minutes.
3. Carefully pour the caramel into a round baking dish, swirling to coat the bottom evenly. Set aside.

2. Make the Flan:
1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, whole milk, eggs, vanilla extract, and salt until smooth.
3. Pour the mixture over the set caramel in the baking dish.

3. Bake the Flan:
1. Place the baking dish in a larger roasting pan. Carefully pour hot water into the roasting pan to come halfway up the sides of the baking dish (this creates a water bath to ensure even cooking).
2. Bake in the preheated oven for 50-60 minutes, or until the flan is set and a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.
3. Remove the flan from the water bath and let it cool to room temperature. Refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight.

4. Serving:
1. To unmold, run a knife around the edge of the flan to loosen it. Invert a large serving plate over the baking dish and quickly flip both over to release the flan onto the plate.
2. Garnish with fresh mint leaves and additional caramel drizzle if desired.

Enjoy this exotic dessert that combines the sweetness of traditional Mexican flan with the refreshing taste of mint!
